The end of the 2025/26 tax year will soon be here, which means a few additional tasks to carry out on your payroll, if you run one.
If you run a payroll, you will need to report information on the tax year that is ending on 5 April 2026 to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).
You will also need to prepare for the new tax year, which starts on 6 April 2026.
HMRC provide the following handy list of tasks that need to be carried out:
- Send your final payroll report for 2025/26 on or before your employee’s last payday for the tax year.
- Update employee payroll records and payroll software from 6 April 2026. Have you received a tax code for each of your employees for the new tax year? Have new employees given you a copy of their P45?
- Give your employees their P60 summarising total pay and tax/national insurance deducted by 31 May 2026.
- Report employee benefits and expenses using your payroll software (or by completing forms P11D) by 6 July 2026 (and pay any Class 1A national insurance due on 22 July 2026).
Your employees will require their P60 and copy P11D to complete their 2025/26 Self-Assessment Tax Returns.
